Asphalt Repairs
Asphalt repairs come in many different forms depending on budget and severity. One of the most appealing reasons to choose hot-mix asphalt over concrete is its ability to be repaired. Whether the repair is caused by aged asphalt, base failure or due to a repair of an underground utility (water, power, gas or communication). There are a variety of options that can be used to repair Hot-mix Asphalt.
Pothole patching:
- Filling a hole or failure with hot-mix asphalt and compacting. This is considered a more temporary repair and has the shortest lifespan.
(this option is considered the fastest and most costefective way to quickly repair an asphalt failure.)
Full Depth Spot Repair:
- This is considered a more permanent repair. This process involves saw cutting and excavating past the repaired area. Removal of damaged asphalt and unsuitable base. Then reinstallation of suitable base material and asphalt, all compacted in lifts. We tack oil the edges of the repair to allow the new asphalt to adhere to the existing asphalt.
Cold milling and Filling:
- This is the process of cold milling or (plaining) a specified depth of the Asphalt surface. We then clean the surface thoroughly, apply tack oil (to help the new asphalt adhere to the existing asphalt) Then install a new lift of hot-mix asphalt. This lift can vary from 50mm to 65mm. This process if often referred to as “Resurfacing”
